How the Cyclone is formed?

Three things are important for the cyclone formation

1.Sun's heat

2. Sea water

3. Earth rotation

Before we enter into the topic we have to know some basic informations

The sun's temperature is higher in the middle of the earth when compared to the polar regions, because the equator region is closer to the sun and the sun rays are first hits the equator region when compare to the polar region.

The region between the Tropic of cancer and Tropic of capricorn is called as Tropical region and the cyclones are formed in the tropical region only.

  • When the sun fall on the equator region, the sea water warm and then it leads to evaporation and it create the low pressure in the area.
  • We are all know that the air moves from the high pressure to low pressure.
  • To fill the void(empty space) in the area, the air moves from high pressure to low pressure area and the cyclone forms.
So lets go deep into how the air moves from the high pressure to low pressure and how the cyclone is formed.

Earth rotation is important for cyclone formation
We all know that earth rotate towards east. To fill the empty space(low pressure) in the Equator the air moves from the polar regions (high Pressure) . The polar regions are cold and are having the high pressure air and this air move towards the equator.

  • When the air moves from the northern polar region, due to the coriolis force the air move towards the right side from the northern polar region and it move to the equator in Anticlockwise direction and fills the void in equator. So in northern hemisphere cyclone moves in anticlockwise direction.
  • In southern hemisphere the air moves towards left side and it reach the equator and air moves in clockwise direction. So in Southern hemisphere the cyclone moves in the  clockwise direction.

Name of the cyclone in different countries
Cyclones are known by different names in different regions of the world:
  • Caribbean Sea:  Hurricanes
  • China Sea: Typhoons
  • Indian Ocean: Tropical cyclones
  • Japan: Taifu
  • Northern Australia: Wily willies
  • Philippines: Baguio
  • USA: Tornadoes
  • Guinea lands of West Africa: Tornadoes.
I hope you are all learn how the cyclone is formed and if you have any doubts, please leave your questions in the comment section.
